A simple radionuclide-driven single-ion source.
We describe a source capable of producing single barium ions through nuclear recoils in radioactive decay. The source is fabricated by electroplating (148)Gd onto a silicon α-particle detector and vapor depositing a layer of BaF(2) over it. (144)Sm recoils from the alpha decay of (148)Gd are used to dislodge Ba(+) ions from the BaF(2) layer and emit them in the surrounding environment. The simu...
متن کاملElectrically driven single-photon source.
Electroluminescence from a single quantum dot within the intrinsic region of a p-i-n junction is shown to act as an electrically driven single-photon source. At low injection currents, the dot electroluminescence spectrum reveals a single sharp line due to exciton recombination, while another line due to the biexciton emerges at higher currents. The second-order correlation function of the diod...
متن کاملDeterministic single-photon source from a single ion
We realize a deterministic single-photon source from one and the same calcium ion interacting with a high-finesse optical cavity. Photons are created in the cavity with efficiency (88± 17)%, a tenfold improvement over previous cavity-ion sources. Results of the second-order correlation function are presented, demonstrating a high suppression of two-photon events limited only by background count...
متن کاملA simple method for estimating effective ion source residence time.
A method is presented that uses the well-understood O2/Ax ion-molecule reaction system to determine the effective ion source residence time of a chemical ionization source. The process consists of: (1) defining the kinetic system in terms of reactions, reaction rates, and ionization cross sections; (2) solving the differential equations that describe the time evolu-tion of the kinetic system, a...
متن کاملSimple radio-frequency power source for ion guides and ion traps
A high power oscillator circuit, designed to power radio-frequency ~rf! ion guides and traps, is described. The rf circuit is directly coupled to the guide/trap electrodes, and no frequency or impedance matching is required. The design provides precisely adjustable rf amplitudes from ;50 to 600 V, either under manual or computer control. The operating frequency can be varied from ,1 to ;30 MHz ...
